Venue: The Mallard on Church

The Mallard on Church, owned by sweetheart Kristy and husband Dan, is a wheelchair accessible A-Frame cabin in the woods just outside of the beautiful town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia!

When they welcomed us over for a visit we were struck by the peace and tranquility while still being so close to everything that Nova Scotia’s South Shore has on offer. It was just a scoot in from the highway, an hour from Halifax or the Annapolis Valley, and less than 20 minutes to both Lunenburg and Bridgewater, this slick new cabin is perfectly situated to give you the best of all worlds.

Lakefront to Church Lake (how fitting), your view is a quiet corner of the lake, a beautiful deck and a cosy fire-pit. The Mallard is tucked in it’s very own treed lot just seconds off of a main road so you’ll be serenaded by a symphony of tree birds (not traffic noise) and perhaps visited by the ducks themselves …

This spot is ceremony ready with the beautiful backdrop of nature all around you.

We asked Kristy for the deets. Tell us a bit about The Mallard on Church Lake, how did it come to be?

After my father passed away in 2019, and then a pandemic hit, Dan and I knew that we needed to find a place that truly felt like home for us to be able to enjoy a more calm and fulfilling life. A road trip around Nova Scotia told us that Lunenburg was the answer! We sold most of what we owned, and moved here to build not only a dream home for us to reside in, but a vacation rental that would provide people from all over the world with the same sense of healing peace that we had been chasing.

What makes The Mallard unique?

Besides being an A Frame design and pouring our heart into all the little details … there’s the accessibility of it. During the last years of my dad’s life he was a wheelchair user, and we quickly learned as a family that many places are not as accessible as they should be. We have lovingly designed The Mallard to be accessible and functional for all abilities, so that everyone can enjoy themselves and nature!
