Founded by Duguay, Anemone was born from the idea that private dining and inspired celebrations should be available and accessible in Halifax’s downtown core, no matter how small the event size - no wonder we love Anemone hey? Since no wedding is complete without beverages, Duguay partnered with Stéphane Duval (aka SipsWithStephane) to offer specially curated cocktail menus along with inventive approaches to classic cocktail techniques and recipes.

Tell us a bit about your spot and how it became to be a venue

Anemone was born from the idea that private dining and a high end event venue should be accessible to the public, no matter the size of their group. We wanted a space that would focus on food and drink, while making each of our clients feel welcome, special and that they had a say in their special details. After 10 years in the Halifax private dining and catering industry, I opened the doors to Anemone in 2022, with bartender extraordinaire Stephane Duval by my side.  Anemone is a space that offers all of the above, in the heart of downtown, in the Historic Keith’s Brewery Market.

What makes your spot unique as a venue?

Our space is unique in many ways! Not only are we located downtown, on the waterfront, we are right in the Keith’s Brewery Market, an incredibly one of a kind location oozing in character, charm and history. From an offerings standpoint we are the only event venue downtown that offers solely private dining. We are also one of the only micro event venues, and have a low minimum to allow groups with smaller budgets to still experience a high end dining event. We also offer all of our services off site, and can bring the Anemone experience to you!

If you could design a pop up wedding, what would it look like?

Any wedding at Anemone is focused on food and drink. Whether it’s cocktail hors d’oeuvres, a seated dinner, grazing tables, a curated wine selection & signature cocktails or a 0% ABV lineup of drinks, we submerse our guests in what surely is any foodie’s dream, hand picked and curated entirely to their liking. We have a space that is flexible to accommodate your small ceremony, and then flips over to the perfect reception space.

If we designed a pop up wedding ourselves it would begin with guests arriving, while the couple (privately) have their first look in the historic, indoor courtyards right outside our doors. Guests would be welcomed with a signature spritz, as they find their seats. The ceremony would take place in front of one of our charming windows that overlook the courtyards, short and sweet. We would then usher guests to the indoor courtyards while we quickly flip the space, and welcome them back to a smorgasbord of grazing and abundant hors d’oeuvres with signature cocktails flowing. Guests can mingle with the couple and get comfortable while enjoying the gastronomic offerings. Guests would then be seated at our long, candle lit dining table to be treated to a coursed dinner, with paired drink offerings, conversation and good times lasting late in to the night. Did we mention we also love to do a late night snack?

What are you looking forward to most in the upcoming wedding season?

Being busy and getting creative with all our couples!
